Advanced Music Program

(Ages 7-18)

The Advanced Music Program (AMP) at DHCSM is an audition-based program designed for kids and teens ages 7-18 who show extraordinary dedication to artistic and musical excellence. Led by DHCSM Artistic Directors Vitaly Serebriakov and Svetlana Obregon Saenz, the AMP program brings world-class, comprehensive music instruction in the European tradition to students in the greater Phoenix area.


Mandatory weekly classes weekly include:


  • Individual private instruction (45-50 minutes)
  • Advanced Music Class (ages 7-13) – an in-depth study of music literature, music theory, and ear training
  • Advanced Music Theory (ages 14-18)
  • Instrument-specific ensemble class
  • Elective classes by choice
  • Studio class (bi-monthly)


In addition, the program provides AMP students with multiple performance opportunities and organizes music competitions for all students from the state of Arizona.

Offered Advanced Music Program instruments include piano, violin, cello, saxophone and flute

Admission Process

Admission to the AMP program is a three-step process:


  1. Have 1-2 years of playing experience on a musical instrument
  2. Complete the Interest Form on the website
  3. Complete an in-person audition

Tuition & Fees

  • $25 yearly enrollment and participation fee (billed in August)
  • $1600 tuition per semester, paid in five monthly installments ($320 / month)
  • $60 / month for each elective class


A limited number of need-based and merit-based scholarships are available. These scholarships range from 25% to 50% of the full tuition cost.

Schedule of Classes

Most mandatory and elective classes are held on Saturdays. Saturday group mandatory classes include:


11:00-11:50:  Advanced Music Class (ages 7-13)

11:00-11:50:  Advanced Music Theory (ages 14-18)

12:00-12:30:  Instrument-specific Ensemble Class


Saturday Electives, depending on interest and enrollment, will include:


  • General group piano
  • Physical stretching for musicians
  • Conducting
  • Improvisation
  • Composition


Private individual instruction can be scheduled throughout the week based on student and instructor availability.
