Classes & Ensembles

Why is it so important for musicians to make music in groups?

While studying a musical instrument is often a solitary pursuit—traditionally involving private lessons followed by hours of independent practice—it doesn't have to be isolating. At DHCSM, we offer a variety of collaborative programs designed to enrich your musical journey, foster community, and keep you inspired every step of the way.

Group classes offer a collaborative environment where a class of four to eight students of similar experience levels study together under the guidance of a single instructor. This setting provides a unique opportunity for students to share ideas, build lasting relationships, and support one another throughout their musical journey. To accommodate these classes, DHCSM features a beautiful, state-of-the-art piano lab right on campus. [Click here] to explore our full range of group class offerings.

True magic happens when a diverse group of instruments comes together to perform great music. This shared experience is why we are proud to offer several ensembles that bring musicians of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels together from across the Valley for regular rehearsals and performances. There is truly no better way to share your musical gifts than in collaboration with others. [Click here] to view the ensembles we are offering this semester.

We offer immersive, week-long camps and one-day workshops open to both current DHCSM students and the greater community. These programs allow music students to study their instruments more intensely while exploring unique musical elements outside of their regular private lessons. For example, our Desert Hills Band Camp allows students to choose electives in conducting, audio recording basics, and song writing, while our specialized Cello Workshop features masterclasses with Arizona’s premier instructors guest teaching artists.
