Accelerated Program
(Ages 7-18)
The Accelerated Program (AP) at DHCSM is an audition-based program designed for kids and teens ages 7-18 who show extraordinary dedication to artistic and musical excellence. Led by DHCSM Artistic Directors Vitaly Serebriakov and Svetlana Obregon Saenz, the AP path of study brings world-class, comprehensive music instruction in the European tradition to students in the greater Phoenix area.
Mandatory weekly classes include:
Two Individual private instruction lessons – one 45 minutes and one the length of your choice (30, 45, or 60 minutes)
Advanced Music Class (ages 7-13) – an in-depth study of music literature, music theory, and ear training
Advanced Music Theory (ages 14-18)
Instrument-specific ensemble class
Studio class (two times per semester)
In addition, the program provides AP students with multiple performance opportunities and organizes music competitions for all students from the state of Arizona.
Offered Accelerated Program instruments include piano, viola, cello, and saxophone
Admission Process
Admission into AP is by invitation only. However, students may express interest in the program by completing the following steps.
Have 1-2 years of playing experience on a musical instrument
Complete the Interest Form (click below)
Receive approval from private teacher and DHCSM Artistic Directors
Tuition & Fees
$25 yearly enrollment and participation fee (billed in August)
Semester tuition, based on length of second weekly private lesson:
AP with second private weekly lesson of 30 minutes: $2,200 ($440/month)
AP with second private weekly lesson of 45 minutes: $2,500 ($500/month)
AP with second private weekly lesson of 60 minutes: $2,800 ($560/month)
Electives (listed below) are $60/month
A limited number of need-based and merit-based scholarships are available. These scholarships range from 25% to 50% of the full tuition cost.
Schedule of Classes
The following mandatory classes are held on Saturdays:
11:00-11:50: Advanced Music Class (ages 7-13)
11:00-11:50: Advanced Music Theory (ages 14-18)
Other classes scheduled throughout the week based on student and instructor availability include:
Private Instruction (twice a week)
Ensemble rehearsals (once a week)
Saturday Electives, depending on interest and enrollment, will include:
General group piano
Physical stretching for musicians
Conducting
Improvisation
Composition
